CONTACT: Kolkata,WB, 22 march 2009.As per Center for Social Research statistics, 98% of the 498a cases filed are FALSE. Unbelievable as it may seem, this is the truth. Common marital issues which used to be considered family matters that needed to be worked out among family members are now rotting as criminal cases unresolved for several years in Indian courts. Women who are intolerant of the slightest differences and disputes in their matrimonial homes have finally found a weapon to strike with. Today, men are facing a lot of issues due to lack of protection to men according to law from extortion, dowry harassment (of men), and domestic violence and economic abuse. According to National Crime Records Bureau, in every 10 minutes a husband is committing suicide in India. The impact of the legal terrorism is enormous:
Source: National Crime Records Bureau 2005 The DV Act is equally biased and unconstitutional. The Supreme Court of India has termed the DV Act as a badly drafted law, which can lead to "social chaos". The current Domestic Violence act was drafted by lawyers, whose expertise on 1st principle of law making and justice is questionable. Some of their key members are unable to understand that words police, bail, jail, bonds have no place in DV act which is supposed to be civil law. The law is used grab the property and wealth created by Elderly People out of their retirement funds. This has removed the peaceful residency rights of elderly people and unleashed "legal violence" on elderly. We are NOT FOR PROFIT organization, comprising of VICTIMS themselves only, giving FREE legal and other support to the helpless victims who suffer from this draconian law. We organized a drama on 498a, at Sarat Sadan, Howrah on 15th march 2009, which was not performed by professional actors. The program was organized by Howrah Journalist Club. At the end of the drama, a few local NGO's met us and wanted us to stage the drama in various localities including slums and it is a very hot matter and we have reflected a very big truth of today's society. The show was received with great enthusiasm by the audience who congratulated us.
