As the world celebrates the empowerment of women, a group of men meet regularly at Sambhaji Park to plan how to protect men from women who they say тАШmisuse legal rights to opress men.тАЩ
тАЬEverybody overlooks how women have been misusing laws like Domestic Violence Act and sections of IPC dealing with rape, molestation, etc. all to settle scores with men,тАЭ says Rajesh Wakharia, a worker of Save India Family Foundation (SIFF). Other SIFF workers nod in approval. Each has a tale to tell.

New Delhi: Family problems, illness, love affairs, bankruptcy identified as top causes
Is the mounting burden of responsibilities driving men to the end of their tether? Numbers suggest so.
In India, one married man commits suicide every nine minutes. Of the total 1,25,017 cases of suicide in 2008, married men alone accounted for 57,639. While the number of women taking the extreme step did not lag far behind, men appeared more vulnerable to mounting social and economic pressures. In the case of women, the trigger was more emotional and personal.

With the women's reservation bill moving closer to reality and likely to be passed in the budget session this year, mens welfare organisations have raised the ante, opposing what they call ''tagging men as second class citizens'' by ''opportunist feminists''. The Save Indian Family, an umbrella organisation of a number of mens and family rights' bodies, and its associated NGO, All India Men Welfare Association (AIMWA), have denounced the very idea of 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and state legislatures. In fact, they believe this reservation would just make it easier for ''feminist'' MPs and MLAs to pass other discriminatory laws against men and women-centric Acts and provisions like the Domestic Violence Act and section 498A IPC, the misuse of which "has ruined many a man and families". Sumanth, the Bangalore-based founder member of SIF, termed it as ''officially declaring men as second class citizen''. ''Since the last couple of years, opportunist feminists have tried for 33 per cent reservation in Parliament. They need some more numbers in Parliament to pass some more discriminatory laws against men. At present, the feminist politicians are in a very awkward position due to large scale misuse of anti-dowry laws, section 498a of IPC and also the Domestic Violence Act. This has made it very difficult for them to get the sexual harassment at workplace law passed without the 'prevention of misuse clause'. Their anger and frustration has hit the skies.'' India is not the only country in the world with under representation of women in politics. There have been just 38 women in the the U S Senate since the establishment of that body in 1789. To this the members say, ''Now, the irony is that feminists here want to set an example before the world with this Bill.

Hyderabad, March.3: Opposing the 85th Constitutional Amendment Bill ( Women's Reservation Bill), the All India Forgotten Women's Association (AIFWA) and All India Men' s Association (AIMWA) have demanded all political parties to provide 33 percent tickets to women to contest in the elections.
Speaking to media persons here today, AIFWA president Ms Uma Challa said that the public representatives in a democracy should be those who have everyone' s welfare in mind and not promoting a specific gender, caste or creed. The Women' s Reservations Bill is undemocratic because male citizens will be forced to withdraw or prevented from contesting in reserved constituencies solely because they are male. It takes away the democratic right of 11 crore men to contest in the elections. This is against the fundamental rights of 11 crore men. It violates the right to equality guaranteed under the constitution. She said that passing the women' s Bill was undemocratic because women are not an oppressed class who need their own representatives in the parliament to address their specific issues.

Hyderabad: Opposing the proposed amendments to Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, civil society groups here on Wednesday alleged that the amendments amounted to legalising dowry.
"The amendments include mandatory requirement for couples to notify the list of gifts exchanged during their wedding ceremony. Through the amendments, the government is legalising and encouraging the practice of dowry," Uma Challa, president of All India Forgotten Women's Association (AIFWA), told reporters.
"The question before the media and all citizens is, when are we going to realise we are being fooled and say 'no' to laws like the DP Act, which has so many inherent flaws that their honest implementation will never be possible," she asked.
