Bangalore: The Save Indian Family Foundation (SIFF), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) that was established in 2005 to fight for gender equality in the judiciary system, has decided to fight against laws like Section 498A and Section 125 of Indian penal Code (IPC). The former is the domestic violence act and the second one deals with child custody. SIFF members feel that these are draconian acts which discriminate men in the society. "About 75,000 dowry cases were registered in 2007 alone. A large number of these cases have been filed by wives who wanted to take revenge on their husband. Certain laws like the Domestic Violence Act are not safeguarding women but they are rather helping some of them exploit men," said Anil Kumar, President of Save Indian Family Foundation. "In Bangalore , 500 cases of domestic violence have been filed where men are being harassed. The physical, mental and financial torture on men has led many of them to take extreme steps. Recently, a man committed suicide as he was under huge pressure to pay alimony," said Virag Dhulia, Public Relations Officer, SIFF. The NGO has approached Union Law Minister, Veerappa Moily, to look into the issue and Pandurang Katti, secretary, SIFF, said, the minister was supportive of their cause.
