Battered and bruised metaphorically, in most cases husbands plan a peace protest against their violent wives, starting on Gandhi Jayanti Harassed husbands plan to take a leaf out of Bapu's book and organise a month-long peaceful protest against scheming wives who misuse the Domestic Violence Act. Over 30,000 harassed husbands across the nation will observe Domestic Violence Awareness Month, starting from October 2 Gandhi Jayanti and the International Day of Non-violence. They will observe October 25 as Black Day. They chose October as it was the month when the Domestic Violence Act was passed in 2006. "This is to intensify our protest across the country. We have planned several activities to raise our voice against the misuse of the Act," said Virag Dhulia, member, SIFF (Save Indian Family Foundation), which also organised a meet in Shimla on Independence Day.
Creating awareness
The hubbies plan a month-long peaceful protest through several activities in cities including Bangalore, Pune, Nagpur, Hyderabad and Delhi. These will include flier campaigns, road shows, sticker campaigns and a dharna on October 25. In Bangalore, they will distribute pamphlets in all courts, creating awareness on the Act while their Lucknow counterparts will organise activities like the Hath Milao campaign and sticker campaign, where hubbies will stick awareness write-ups on men's rights on their cars. The husbands will also take forward this initiative through a domestic violence awareness blog at www.dvawarenessindia.blogspot.com, started exclusively for the Domestic Violence Awareness Month. "Apart from the public, we also aim to educate those getting married and who have no knowledge of the Domestic Violence Act," said Pandurang Katti, president, SIFF. "We want to ensure that they are not trapped." Quote this article on your siteTo create link towards this article on your website, copy and paste the text below in your page.
