| Discussion on men’s rights on Oct 10 |

MYSORE, DHNS: A panel discussion on ‘Men’s rights, and its infringement by society’, has been organised in the city on Saturday at EMMRC at between 3 pm and 6 pm, in Manasagangothri in the city. This was informed to the media on Wednesday by Dr B G Ponnappa of Mission Hospital. The programme has been organised jointly by Department of Studies in Sociology and Peoples Urge for Rights and Equity (PURE). Ponnappa said that the aim behind the discussion is to forward a memorandum to President Prathibha Devisingh Patil to review section 498 A of IPC and Domestic Violence Act to make it gender neutral and equal. This is inevitable as in most of the cases men are subjected to harassment in the name of dowry. Harassment to men There are also instances of women harassing men, only to be ignored by the law makers, Ponnappa added. Member of Parliament H Vishwanath will be the chief guest. MLA H S Shankarlinge Gowda, additional SP Venkataswamy, Sarada Vilas Law College Principal Bollamma, journalist Prof H L Keshavamurthy, Kumar Jahgirdhar of CRISP, Bangalore and Panduranga Katti, of SIF Bangalore will be the panelists. |
