Pune: The 27-year-old man was constantly being pressurised by wife and father-in-law for money

In another case of suicide in the city, a man ended his life after he was harassed by his wife and father-in-law. Twenty seven-year-old Pankaj Sancheti committed suicide on Wednesday in Thergaon after he was allegedly harassed about handing over the ownership of his flat to his wife.

After Pankaj’s body was found hanging on the ceiling fan in his bedroom his father lodged a complaint against Pankaj’s wife Poonam Sancheti (22) and Pankaj’s father in law Premchand Nahar at the Hinjewadi police station.

In his FIR, Pankaj’s father says, “Pankaj was married to Poonam were both living at Saikrushna park in Vrundavan society near Dange chowk in Thergaon while Poonam’s father Premchand Nahar lives in Beed.

However soon after their marriage both his wife and his father-in-law started harassing him and they started pressuring him to handover ownership of the flat to Poonam. They even demanded Rs 5 lakhs from him.

Pankaj's father alleges that Nahar would call him up and abuse him constantly, even claiming to harass him to the extent of distorting his marital life. "He was upset with the constant harassment and finally had enough of it and ended his life by hanging himself on the ceiling fan in his bedroom,” the father alleges.

Assistant Inspector L B Bansode of Hinjewadi police station who is investigating the case said, “From last two years Pankaj’s wife and his father in law Premchand were harassing him.

There were few complaints lodged about this in the past as well. According to Pankaj’s father they pressured him so much that he had to take such a drastic step.

A complaint against his wife and father-in-law has been lodged, but both of them are not in Pune. They are in Beed so we will have to send our team there. After all the legal formalities a team will be sent to Beed and further action in this case will be taken.”
