Bangalore: The government is thinking of implementing the Justice Malimath Committee report on reforms in the criminal justice system. Law minister L Suresh Kumar, speaking at the 32nd All-India Criminology Conference on Wednesday, said the government is also contemplating amendments to the Karnataka Control of Organized Crime Act by including terrorism in the definition of organized crime. The three-day conference, organized by Bangalore University and The Indian Society of Criminology, will be attended by academics and students. DG & IGP Ajai Kumar Singh, delivering the keynote address, said: “Social scientists in the field of criminology and the police should work closely.” Professor M Z Khan, former president of the Indian Society of Criminology, said 2 crore criminal cases are pending trial. The first day saw discussions on subjects such as science, technology, law and criminal justice. On the final day, topics under criminology will be discussed. |
