Dehradun: A woman was arrested for allegedly marrying over a dozen times and cheating her elderly ‘husbands’, police on Tuesday said.

Seema alias Afsari, 31, was arrested on Monday evening from Badrish Colony area here following a complaint filed by a person saying that his wife has fled with jewellery worth lakh of rupees and cash of Rs 85,000.

Afsari’s real husband Mohammed Shahid, 40, has also been arrested along with her for his alleged involvement in the racket. Suresh, 55, a resident of Baghpat area in Uttar Pradesh, told the police that he married Afsari through a man called Bharat, a resident of Dehra Dun.

Mastermind at large

During investigations, police found that Bharat used to take money from old men and got them married to Afsari, who would then flee with the money and jewellry from her husband's house.

Police said the woman had duped over a dozen elderly men in this manner in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Bharat, who is allegedly the mastermind of the game, is still at large and efforts are on to nab him, they said.
