LUDHIANA: With a view to provide help to those families that are made to suffer on false complaints and cases under dowry laws and domestic violence act, a non-governmental organization (NGO) - Swatantra Awaz Welfare Organization (SAWO) - has demanded from the government that representation of men?s organizations should also be there in Crime against Women (CAW) cell. Besides, men should also be brought under the cover of Domestic Violence Act, the letter to the Prime Minister, the President and top officials urged. While women organizations are free to exert pressure on accused men taking help of CAW cell, there is no provision where men could seek rightful help when they face similar atrocities. This is what bars one from getting rightful justice, said SAWO president Amandeep Singh. He further revealed that they have also urged the regime that in the Act and Section 498 A of the IPC, the word ‘woman’ should be replaced with ?person? as men who are made to suffer in bad marriages have no option on the moves to take if they are subjected to cruelty by their wives and in-laws. Incharge of the women cell of SAWO, Tejinder Kaur, rued all laws favour only those women who are from the girl’s family. Are daughters and mothers in the husband’s family not women, she asks. When they are blindly booked in such cases, nothing is done to see that they are not exposed to any harassment without substantial reason. There is a need to bring in required changes in the laws so as to ensure speedy justice, thereby reducing the harassment faced by the entire family, including the elders, she asserts. |
