The shoe’s on the other foot in this case. A husband has complained to the court of being abused, beaten, imprisoned and robbed by his better half

Harassed husbands are a growing tribe nowadays. The latest is the case of a city-based engineer, who has complained of being abused and beaten, and having his valuables, including important documents, stolen by his wife. Not just that, he was incarcerated in prison for a few months following a harassment complaint by her.

STICK OF CONTENTION!

After his release, he went to the police, but when they did not register his complaint, he approached a city court.
Anup, 39 (name changed), a mechanical engineer working for a reputed MNC and residing in Jayanagar, has alleged that his 35-year-old wife Namratha (name changed), a resident of K S Layout, started harassing him inexplicably. They were married four years ago and have a daughter. Soon after the wedding, Namratha allegedly demanded more money for her expenses. She was not interested in running the house and would fight with him in full public view, Anup has stated.

According to him, he was threatened with dire consequences if he refused to abide by her diktats. On one occasion, she allegedly beat him with a stick after slipping and falling down. She allegedly threatened to book false cases against Anup using the influence of her uncle, a retired IGP, according to the jurisdictional police who have been asked by the court to investigate the complaint.

In February, Namratha filed a complaint with the jurisdictional police alleging that Anup had come home drunk and assaulted her with a stick. He was arrested and sent to prison. After his release on bail recently, he went to his house in Jayanagar, where his wife refused to let him in and allegedly threatened to kill him. According to the police, he was also prevented from taking his clothes from the house.

When he went again to his residence, he learnt that she had left for her sister’s house. Anup alleged that Namratha and her brother had removed all his belongings.

In his complaint to the court, Anup said as the police refused to register his complaint against Namratha and her brother, he had to approach the court.
