The Allahabad High Court said that if reconciliation is not possible in matrimonial disputes and the matter appears to be serious or there is a probability of recurrence of violence, only in those cases, should police take immediate steps for arresting the accused in pursuance of an FIR.

With this direction, the Court has asked the Director General of Police (DGP) UP and Principal secretary (Home) to report to the Court as to whether any government order of direction is available at present in the state for reconciliation of the matrimonial disputes through the mediation and conciliation center at the initial stage of the disputes.

The High Court asked the senior officers to point out the difficulties in sending the cases for mediation, especially with regard to adequacy of the number of mediation center in the Court or attached to the police or Mahila thana or the absence of trained mediators or any other difficulties so that the court may issue appropriate direction for addressing the problems.
