As I write this article, I can see that the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) is leading in about 114 assembly seats out of 224 seats in State of Karnataka in South India. The number of seats BJP needs to form Government in the State is 112. BJP had 79 seats in last assembly elections. One must note that India’s software capital Bangalore is in State of Karnataka and large number of people in Bangalore face serious marital problems and many of them had to run around courts for legal battles, false cases and child custody battles. It must also be noted that the State of Karnataka has got a very high suicide rate, mainly due to family problems. About 13000 people committed suicide in year 2006.

The question is: is breaking of family system in India and specifically in urban India damaging Congress party’s election prospects?

One must note that Congress party rules the Indian Govt at New Delhi with the leftists. The Indian economy has grown well in last 4 years which created a feel good factor. This sentiment is a factor in favour of congress party even though recently there has been a stock market crash and there is a rise in inflation. However, in these last 4 years the divorce rates went sky-wards and more than 95,000 women were arrested without trial or evidence under draconian laws like Section 498a of IPC. At least, 10 million people (young and old) must have gone through traumatic experiences as the families start breaking. In India, parents and siblings also suffer as men and women have marital problems.

People facing marital problems in family discount the “fee good factor” created by economic growth. Both men and women who face separation or custody battle with not give a damn about the economic growth during the Congress party’s tenure as they are not just happy. So, people going through separation via a dysfunctional, slow and corrupt judiciary find it difficult to vote for the national ruling party. Unhappy people also contribute to anti-incumbency factors. The laws in India are passed in parliament in New Delhi. So, bad experiences with judiciary can tend to go against the party ruling in Central Govt at New Delhi. So, the people going through marital problems certainly do not go in favour of congress and that would have also contributed to a small swing in the State of Karnataka, which made BJP get almost 40% more seats.

Its difficult to imagine seeing a young man or woman running around courts say, “I am very happy with Congress party which has not done legal reforms or police reforms and I will vote for the party.” It is unimaginable that any of the 95,000 women arrested or their friends, in-laws, relatives or parents will vote for Congress party in elections.

Divorced people tend to remain away from Democratic party in US. Similar trend is emerging slowly in India. The problem for congress is the judiciary in India is totally dysfunctional and a pain unlike the judiciary in US.

How often you feel dejected with difficult circumstances in personal and family life? How often you find it difficult to bear the pain of your parents or your family members? How often you get upset with society and the system?

Just like a internet website, the life also happens in fore-ground and also in background. In the foreground, we take think, act, talk, listen, plan, worry etc. In the background remain our feelings and experiences. Are your feelings, experiences real? Or have you conditioned yourself to have certain feelings based on external events? Its like training yourself to be jumping in joy, when India wins a one-day cricket match in the last ball. I will give another example. Put a 1.5 year old child in jail, he will be playing happily inside there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_Is_Beautiful.(film)

The only thing we were not taught in life is, how to live life. We grow up and keep growing stiffer and stiffer day by day. Being stiff, you have no power, no vitality and you are in no position to get a victory over circumstances.

Here are some courses regarding life, which can make you look into your own inner self and see what is stopping you and your life.

Landmark Education

www.artofliving.org

www.dhamma.org

Please note, analysis often leads to paralysis. You are powerful to make a difference. Its only you who can make a choice to be powerful or be a loser. Remember the movie “Matrix”? The choice is yours!!

Note:I am sorry to write this.)

Can violent reactions (in tone/emotions or in harshness) be justified?

I am an expert on Men’s Issues and am founder of a men’s rights organisation. When emotionally violent behaviour of men towards wife is considered as domestic violence, why men consider it a privilege to tolerate “violent” behaviour of women?

Every second male that I talk to say, I am scared if I go home late, my wife will be angry and shout at me.

Whatever may be the justification or reason, a man or woman have no right to be even “emotionally violent or display anger” to each other because it is domestic violence as defined by the law.

I hear women say,”Mujhe Bahut Ghussa aata hai”.
What the hell that mean? Has the blind beastly anger has overpowered them?

You wrote:
——————–
She continues to be an enigma, for she will never be provoked when I intend, but erupts like a volcano when least expected.
———————

If a man erupts like a volcano towards his wife, will another woman, society or judges leave him? They will consider him a beast and recommend a punishment of 3 years of imprisonment.

It is impolite to question women, especially the middle aged women with children playing the roles of homemakers. However, with changing realities, men have to start questioning every actions of a woman just the way women are questioning every actions of men and getting laws enacted against men.

It is a fact that men are emotionally weaker than women. Not because of their genetic make up, but because the society suppresses their emotions in childhood. The regular “violent emotions” and volcanic eruptions with “no apparent reasons” need to be discussed. Till now, men were told (rather warned) to tolerate all these for better goods in available in family (god knows what) and for the sake of children.

The social norms and expected behaviour are not constant and they change as the society progresses. When a lot of male behaviour has been put under scrutiny, why the hell the “violent female behaviour” or volcanic eruptions be overlooked?

We, the members of Save Indian Family(SIF) are for a “violence and abuse free” family.

Neither male nor female should be erupting like a volcano whatever the reason may be. Anger is a perfectly unwanted emotion, which was useful in cave age.

Going further, one has to consider the impact of this “violent tone or volcanic eruptions” on the children (male or female). The children are generally conditioned (rather brainwashed) to accept the mother’s behaviour.

So, the male child gets conditioned to tolerate the volcanic eruptions and the female child is conditioned to be volcanic towards her husband. If the young husband responds, then he finds himself termed as a criminal.

A lot of discussion has taken place on impact of violent male behaviour on children, where as the “angry, violent behaviour of mothers” is conveniently ignored because anyone questioning it is considered “mean”.

Today, the first thing we advise to young men is to look at the family of the girl they are getting married to. If the mother of the girl has short temper or erupts like a volcano, then he is doomed from day 1, even though the girl may be extremely calm.

The dangerous part of the story is that these middle aged women become volcanic towards their sons-in-law with no apparent reason. The poor guys just do not understand what has just hit them. They have got not just the violent wife, but also a volcanic mother-in-law as a bonus.

Save Indian Family (SIF) members who got into false dowry cases, can easily relate to angry, violent behaviour of middle-aged women.

They know very well what happens, when they finally stood firm against the volcanic eruptions of mother-in-law.
————————

Finally, 55000 married men committed suicide in year 2006 compared to some 29000 women. The days for tolerance for whatever reason are over. Its time for men to take the battle to the enemy’s territory as there is simply no middle ground with radical feminists having taken over the Government and United Nations.

David Smith, honorary professor of criminology at Edinburgh university and editor of the European Journal of Criminology, said he found the results “surprising”.

Indian Actress Rekha starred in her first Hindi film, Saawan Bhadon, opposite Navin Nischol. This movie was released in 1970 and is apparently Navin’s first movie. Actor Navin Nischol acted in many other movies and also in famous TV serials like “Dekh Bhai Dekh”.

A few days back, his second wife (aged 48) committed suicide in Mumbai. Let’s follow the events. (As I could not find his exact age, so I guess he must be above 60).

TOI reports that Navin Nischol finds himself homeless

“Bollywood is witnessing the makings of another dramatic story. Yesteryear star Navin Nischol and wife Geetanjali have allegedly been thrown out of their ‘own’ house by film producer and younger brother Pravin Nischol.Navin is currently living in a small house at Mahim which belongs to his mother-in-law.”

Navin and brother Pravin have been living in the same house since the 80s. “My husband is a man of few words and doesn’t like to fight. But then problems began. Pravin, who is a successful man today, didn’t like to be told how to live his life and began looking for an excuse to throw us out. This despite knowing that our financial condition was not good at all.’’

After Navin Nischol’s wife committed suicide, TOI reports here and here that,

Due to the differences between the couple, Nischol used to stay in Pune and rarely visited her. Geetanjali, who was childless, stayed in this flat with two servants.”Navin, an alcoholic, is useless and is torturing me and that is why I am ending my life,”said her suicide note written neatly in English on a piece of paper found in her bedroom.

She alleged that the flat was actually financed by Navin when he was a hit in 80’s. Navin brought the flat in Praveen’s name to avoid tax laws. However, Praveen had refuted this allegation.

“Our officers are busy with the VIP bandobast at Hinduja Hospital. Once we (get) the time, we will impose various sections of the Indian Penal Code on Navin.” said Jeo Gaikwad, senior inspector at Mahim police station.

Her brother Sukul says in Mumbai Mirror:

“The police say they didn’t find any jewellery in the house when they made a panchnama following the suicide. Where has it all gone? My sister owned a lot of antique jewellery — both gold and silver — gifted to her by her first husband, Ashok Narbheram. She also had this Hussain she was so proud of,” Sukul told Mumbai Mirror on Friday. “It was estimated at a crore upwards,” he added.

Now the questions are:

1) How much land does a wo(man) need? - from Leo Tolstoy

She had a Hussain (painting) costing more than a crore(Rs.Ten million) and yet she allowed herself to be homeless?

2) Navin used to stay in Pune. Then, how the hell he was torturing her?

3) According to Gitanjali herself, “Navin is a man of few words and does not like to fight.” Can such a man torture anybody?

4) Has the handwriting test been conducted on the suicide note to find if it was written by Gitanjali or it was planted by someone else?
–

I do not want to draw any conclusions. Nobody should. Now, let’s trace the first line of this post and follow second story below.

“Actress Rekha starred in her first Hindi film –Saawan Bhadon, opposite Navin Nischol.”

Tribune India reports:

There was also another puzzle in her life, the “arranged” marriage to Delhi industrialist, Mukesh Agarwal, who some months after the wedding committed suicide by hanging himself with Rekha’s dupatta.

Rediff reports:

“Her marriage to businessman Mukesh Agarwal plunged Rekha into a dark phase after he allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with Rekha’s dupatta. “

It is reported that Navin Nischol is arrested under various sections including Section 498a. What is happening to Navin can happen to any other man.

Finally, we take a look at the behaviour of media. It started with “making of another dramatic story”. So, media is interested in dramatic stories and not in lives of people. So, media and journalists must stop considering themselves as altruistic social reformers.

About a week back, I promised that I would prove that “Bride Burning” in India for dowry is a hoax. In this regard, I had posted an article on dowry deaths on Desicritics, as bride burning is a subset of dowry deaths.Firstly, we will look at the definition of bride burning.

“In bride-burning, a husband or the family of the husband douses the man’s wife with kerosene, gasoline, or other inflammable liquid, and sets the woman alight.”

Many enlightened Indians, especially in the field of literature have felt proud over the years that thousands of Indian women are burnt for dowry. Many more finished their PhDs on these dead women. Many wrote wonderful books. If these unfortunate women had not died, then these socially conscious people would not have made money, got awards and recognitions. (Link)

Western society feels that Indians are specialists in bride burning. It will not be strange if a middle-aged European woman looks at an Indian girl in a tram in Europe and feels relieved that at least this girl will escape from “bride burning”.

Recently, at the India Today Conclave, Suketu Mehta and Feminist Naomi Wolf (of anorexia hoax fame) spoke on the Topic: Can Power Feminism talk to Power Machismo? Rohan Sippy was the moderator. The other speakers in the Conclave included Gerhard Schroeder, Nelson Mandela, and Queen Rania of Jordan among others famous people. (Speech Suketu, Speech Naomi)

Suketu in his speech:

But the Westerners are also partly right. Last year, five thousand women were burnt alive because their families couldn’t give the dowry their husbands’ families demanded. In the last century, fifty million Indian girls were aborted or killed immediately after birth, for the simple crime of being female.

Lies and misrepresentation of facts will not help any society. We will return to the female foeticide statistics and its root cause in some other post. The fact that an enlightened person like Suketu Mehta can talk about 5000 wives being burnt in India will make any one of us angry and cry for blood of “every” man. In fact, one “Tsunami Oriented” Indian feminist blogger shouted for men to be boiled in oil for bride burning.

According to National Crime Bureau, there are 7026 dowry deaths “reported” in India in year 2004. About 5000 of these cases are “dowry suicides”. So, the murders are about 2026 in number. These murders are carried out by stabbing, by hitting, by strangulation, by pushing from a building, by poisoning and by burning etc. Women can also commit suicide by burning themselves and that is not “bride burning” as per the definition. Here, we must also note that men use more violent methods of suicide than women.

Save Indian Family (SIF) puts the burning of wife by husband at a figure of 150 for dowry and also other reasons like anger, suspecting infidelity etc. The burning of women by husband and his family members together can be a number below 40. Interview of a woman, who is burnt 70% or more, making a statement against her in-laws will always be much more sensational for media than the case of a “dowry suicide”. Even though, Indian Crime Reporters in TV Channels show us so many bogus dowry death cases as genuine ones, somehow they are not really able to get bride-burning stories (genuine or false).

So, let’s compare the figure of 5000 “bride burnings” mentioned by Suketu Mehta to an actual number of 190. If the cruel Indians increase the deaths of women even by 10 times still the figure will not reach the claims made by him.

We do not blame Mr.Suketu Mehta. It’s a chain of perpetual lies, which had infected him. This makes us conclude that so far as lying is concerned, the Indian Feminist literature is in no way inferior to the western feminist literature.

Now, SIF has given somewhat better news that just 190 women are burnt every year by husband/relatives for dowry or other reasons. If the claims by SIF are verified to be true, then we have a much better situation than the dismal situation painted by Suketu Mehta. This can of course disappoint many people, who will feel frustrated that they can no longer write stories and plays on burning women and get international awards.

Regarding the India Today Conclave topic on the bogus talk between Feminism and Machismo, Save Indian Family(SIF) believes that “power machismo“ is extremely harmful to Indian men. We have seen enough number of Machismos getting irreversible nervous breakdown within months of a legal conflict with wife. We mentor men to call on their feminine side rather than stiffening themselves with ultramasculinity.

Finally, what about “groom burning” in India? Does it happen? We have found only one case of groom burning (till now) even though one SIF member “claims” that one-day his wife poured hot sambhar on his baldhead. (Groom burning audio).

One day, online columnist Peco Chakravatru insisted that I read the book “Who Stole Feminism? How Women have Betrayed Women” (1994) written by Professor Christina Hoff-Sommers. As I started reading the book, I got a shock of my life. I found that highly provocative, but inaccurate information is propagated in the name of “women’s issues” in Media and in Public forums.

The preface of this book starts with the Anorexia “crisis”, which one can read at this link. It says,

“In Revolution from Within, Gloria Steinem informs her readers that ‘in this country alone…about 150,000 females die of anorexia each year.’ That is more than three times the annual number of fatalities from car accidents for the total population. Steinem refers readers to another feminist best-seller, Naomi Wolf’s The Beauty Myth. And in Ms. Wolf’s book, one again finds the statistic, along with the author’s outrage.” “Where did Ms. Wolf get her figures? Her source is Fasting Girls: the Emergence of Anorexia Nervosa as a Modern Disease, by Joan Brumberg, a historian and former director of women’s studies at Cornell University. … Professor Brumberg, in turn, attributes the figure to the American Anorexia and Bulimia Association.

“I called the American Anorexia and Bulimia Association and spoke to Dr. Diane Mickley, its president. ‘We were misquoted,’ she said. In a 1985 newsletter the association had referred to 150,000 to 200,000 _sufferers_ (not fatalities) of anorexia nervosa.”

Ms. Sommers continues:

What is the correct mortality rate? Most experts are reluctant to give exact figures. Reasonable estimates range from 100 to as many as 400 deaths per year.

I know Gloria Steinem and Naomi Wolf are prominent feminists and social activists. I could not believe that such eminent persons can ever indulge in unscientific research or outright hypocrisy. As I perused the chapters of this sensational book, I was utterly disturbed and my faith on Gender and Sociological research got shattered. I did find the response of other feminists to this book. Most of them felt that it is all right to “lie” and create alarmism for a noble cause and of course, they termed Ms. Sommers a traitor.

Ms. Sommers divides the feminists into two different categories: Gender Feminists and Equity Feminists. The Gender Feminists believe that they are at a gender war against males and women are virtually under siege. They use provocation, alarmism and lies for getting recruits and aim to work for revenge on “all men” for oppressing women from generation to generations. Somehow, they justify a kind of subconscious compensation (in terms of revenge) from all men now, for the so-called “male hegemony” under patriarchy since ages. Of course, these Gender feminists have an eye on the money from various foundations and they try to keep the government on defensive by their unrelenting rhetoric in the media.

Equity feminists on the other hand, take a balanced view of the interaction between men, women and the society. Of course, they are strongly grounded in the concept of Gender Equality.

Almost always, Gender feminists accuse people of being chauvinistic, when someone questions their inaccurate statistics. As a result, they force the people in Media to a defensive line. Ms. Sommers goes on to expose the “super bowl battering hoax” and false rape statistics by feminists and the media. She also talks about the inaccurate information propagated on preferential treatment that boys get at school.

I remember an Indian feminist telling a parliamentary delegation in Bangalore, “Sir, the rape and murder of girls in BPO industry is increasing at a rapid rate.” Well, she had only one data point, as only one such incident happened in Bangalore. She could manage to draw a graph out of that single data point and even extrapolate it!! Every year about fifty-to-hundred elderly people get murdered in Bangalore. Yet, Bangalore is considered to be a safe city. Only the murder of a BPO woman changed the definition of Bangalore overnight from a safe city to an unsafe city.

Of course, the inaccurate information and resultant conclusion are used to campaign for new laws and also bring changes in the environment in schools. Any policy on handling of boys and girls in schools based on the inaccurate statistics and rhetoric can indeed cause serious harm to future generations. Does vindictive behaviour based on provocation, lies and alarmism help any society?

Finally, I realised that Feminism today is no longer a social movement for gender equality, but a political movement driven by hate and revenge. This vicious hatred is not only directed towards men or even boys, but also towards women, who are related to (or support) men.

Then, I worked to find where the prominent Indian feminists stand so far as provocation, hypocrisy and alarmism is concerned. I will write about these aspects in near future.

Save Indian Family Foundation (SIFF) spokesperson Swarup Sarkar has accused WCD Minister Renuka Chowdhury of fudging the statistics on “dowry deaths”. According to Mr.Sarkar, Minister Renuka Chowdhury only talked about the reported dowry death cases and deliberately avoided mentioning the actual convictions in “dowry death trials” after false cases are dismissed in the courts.

Minister Renuka Chowdhury had referred to “registered dowry death cases” in Parliament.

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/More_than_6000……2852905.cms

“More than 6,000 dowry-related cases are registered on an average annually, according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the Lok Sabha has been informed.”

According to Mr.Sarkar, 65% of dowry death cases are reportedly false. Interestingly, he refers to the same National Crime Records Bureau Data that Renuka Chowdhury also referred in her statement. According to this data, the trial of 5428 cases were completed in year 2006 and only in 1830 dowry death cases, the courts convicted the accused. So, the conviction rate is 33% and Mr.Sarkar says that all other cases are false as conviction could not take place.

According to Mr.Sarkar, it is misleading to include false/acquitted cases in “Dowry Deaths statistics”. The cases registered include both the real ones and the fake ones, which result in acquittal. Mr.Sarkar wants only the “convicted cases” to be used in media as actual dowry deaths. According to Mr.Sarkar, often false cases can blow up the statistics and mislead the society. “Hence to have clarity it is important to use the number of convictions (ie 1830) as the actual number of dowry deaths”, he said.

One can wonder, who is telling the truth. Is Mr.Sarkar telling the truth or is Minister Renuka Chowdhury telling the truth?

It is to be noted that as per definition of dowry death, any unnatural death of married Indian woman within 7 years of marriage can be investigated as dowry death. This kind of relaxed definition results in classifications of deaths of women due to road accidents, disease, suicides or any unnatural circumstances like drowning etc, without involvement of husband or relatives as dowry deaths. This blows up the dowry deaths data and in 2006, the number of such cases registered was 7618. Firstly, it is ridiculous to consider every death of woman within 7 years of marriage as a death caused by her husband or in-laws. Now, the National Commission for Women wants to remove this 7 years limit in the definition of dowry deaths. If implemented, the death of any woman at any point of her lifetime due to any reasons even without involvement of husband or relatives can be investigated as a dowry death. That will simply blow up the dowry deaths statistics to many million deaths as even the death of a woman due to old age would get classified as a dowry death.

In the meanwhile, seeing the huge blown up false figures of dowry deaths, more and more alarmed parents will abort the “girl child” without realizing that actual dowry deaths are just 1830 in a year for a country with a population of 1.13 billion people.

One just wonders, if Minister Renuka Chowdhury is solving the problems of the society or is herself a part of the problem. Creating panic in the society with a blown up figure of dowry deaths will certainly lead to more “female foeticide” as parents start thinking that, it is better to kill the girl in womb than allowing her to get killed for dowry.” According to Mr.Sarkar, the dowry death figures of 1830 are so low that there is no reason for the society or girls’ parents to feel alarmed. He urged the Minister Renuka Chowdhury to stop creating panic in the society as alarmism and resultant panic can lead to more female foeticide, which she herself is gearing up to fight against.

From another perspective, if Mr.Swarup Sarkar is correct, then it is good news for Indian society. If the actual dowry deaths are only 1830 in a year, then the situation of woman in India is better than situation of women in US, where about 1200 women get murdered by husbands or relatives every year (population of the US is 25% of population of India).

One just wonders, how justified it is to constantly degrade a culture and a civilization by misrepresenting facts and statistics. If the murder of women by husbands or relatives in India is less than similar murders in US, then Indians will soon ask serious questions about the negative publicity that the nation gets worldwide. It is not surprising for one to see that some western nations take pride in degrading other cultures and civilizations just to divert attention from their own social problems of drugs addiction, teen pregnancies and shootings in high schools. Some of these countries also heavily fund biased sociological studies.

It is also surprising to see lack of questioning by Indian intellectuals for decades about these facts or statistics. One also wonders, if the 1830 dowry deaths are really dowry deaths or are they just deaths due to domestic violence and battering?

The relevant National Crime Records Bureau Data:

===============================
Detailed Statistics on dowry deaths in year 2006
===============================

Number of Cases where conviction took place: 1830 (Real Cases)

Cases that are Acquitted Or Discharged (Total): 3598 (False Cases)

Total cases disposed = 5428 (Real+False Cases)

Total cases pending in beginning of year: 29713
Total cases pending in end of year: 24183

Total cases registered in year 2006: 7618 (which include both real and false cases).

False dowry case? Man kills self

Posted online: Thursday , February 07, 2008 at 03:21:17

Lucknow, February 6 A 30-year-old man, Pushkar Singh, committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his home in Jankipuram area of Vikas Nagar, on Wednesday.

In a suicide note, addressed to the Allahabad High Court, Singh alleges that he was framed in a dowry case by his wife Vinita and her relatives, due to which he had to spend time in judicial custody for four months.

The Vikas Nagar police registered a case later in the day.

“During the investigation, if we find it necessary to question Vinita, we will definitely record her statement,” said BP Singh, Station Officer, Vikas Nagar.

Pleading innocence and holding his wife responsible for the extreme step he was taking, Singh’s note states: “I was sent to jail after a false dowry case was lodged against me by Vinita and her family, who had demanded Rs 14 lakh as a compensation. Neither my father nor I had seen such a big amount in our lives. We even sold our house to contest the case.”

According to reports, Singh married Vinita about two years ago and lived in Allahabad since.

Early last year, his wife left him and started living with her family.

A case under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 498 (A) (cruelty by husband or relatives of husband) and 504 (intentional insult) was lodged by Vinita and her relatives before she left him.

In the note, Singh wrote he was in the Naini Central Jail from “September 29 to December 24, 2007”.

Shishupal Singh, Singh’s brother-in-law, said he was disturbed ever since he released from jail. The court case constantly haunted him.

“After he was bailed out, he was living with his mother, younger sister and a physically-challenged brother in a rented house in Jankipuram.” The family had their own house in Indira Nagar, which was recently sold to meet the legal expenses, he added.

“While he searched for a job, he drove a three-wheeler for a living. A few days ago, he received a notice from the court and since then, he stopped stepping out of the house,” he said.

In the note, Singh further wrote: “I would also like to request Vinita not to harass my family in future. It was my mistake to marry her and I am repenting it by sacrificing my life.”
