This is one Shimla Declaration that adds an intriguing twist to the meaning of freedom and independence. While Prime Minister Manmohan Singh spoke of the nation's growth in his Independence Day address in the Capital, in Shimla, the summer capital under the British, a group of men and women at that very moment declared they were better off in the British Raj. That freedom to them was still a dream.
The Save Indian Family Foundation (SIFF) comprises young, angry, "harassed" husbands, who claim they represent 25 NGOs and 40,000 equally "tortured" persons like them. Their grouse: they were being "betrayed" by those who framed laws and enforced them; that the law erroneously assumed all wives were "innocent angels" who could only be sinned against, and are not sinners.

शिमला : पत्नियों के सताए पतियों ने प्रण लिया है कि अब वे किसी भी पुरुष को प्रताडि़त नहीं होने देंगे। सेव इंडियन फैमिली फाउंडेशन के बैनर तले एकजुट हुए प्रताडि़त पतियों ने शिमला घोषणापत्र जारी किया है। मांग की है कि पत्नी द्वारा पति की प्रताड़ना रोकने के लिए अलग से पुरुष कल्याण मंत्रालय खोला जाए। उल्लेखनीय है कि पत्नी द्वारा कानून की धाराओं का दुरुपयोग कर जो जुल्म पति और उसके परिजनों के साथ किए जाते हैं, उससे कई हंसते-खेलते परिवार खत्म हो गए हैं। पतियों के साथ हो रहे अन्याय पर चर्चा के लिए शिमला में देशभर से लोग जुटे थे। दो दिन की चर्चा के बाद उक्त घोषणा पत्र जारी किया गया है। इसमें मांग की गई है कि पत्नियों द्वारा दहेज उत्पीड़न के नाम पर मानसिक व शारीरिक रूप से प्रताडि़त करने और घरेलू हिंसा के मामलों के तहत दर्ज होने वाले मुकदमों को जमानती बनाया जाए। इसके लिए एक राष्ट्रस्तरीय कमेटी का गठन भी किया जाए। क्योंकि पतियों और उनके परिवार के खिलाफ दहेज प्रताड़ना के 98 फीसदी मामले झूठे पाए गए हैं। घोषणा पत्र में महिलाओं की तर्ज पर राष्ट्रीय पुरुष आयोग के गठन की भी मांग की गई है। स्वतंत्रता दिवस पर फाउंडेशन द्वारा आयोजित सेव इंडियन फेमिली के दूसरे राष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन में संस्था के 21 राज्यों से करीब 150 प्रतिनिधियों ने दो दिन चर्चा की। कानून की किन धाराओं का लाभ उठा कर पत्नियां पतियों को प्रताडि़त करती हैं उन पर भी चर्चा हुई। वक्ताओं ने बताया कि राष्ट्रीय अपराध अन्वेषण ब्यूरो के 2006 के आंकड़ों के मुताबिक देश में 100 में से आत्महत्या करने वाले 63 पुरुषों में से 45 फीसदी शादीशुदा होते हैं। जबकि 100 में से 37 महिलाएं आत्महत्या करती हैं। इनमें से मात्र 25 फीसदी ही शादीशुदा होती हैं। महिलाएं आत्महत्या करें तो उसे दहेज प्रताड़ना व घरेलू हिंसा कहा जाता है। लेकिन जब पुरुष आत्महत्या करे तो कारण तनाव व अन्य बताए जाते हैं।

Shimla, A group of men who met here over the past two days, seeking 'freedom from harassment by wives', Sunday passed a resolution terming a clause of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as 'unconstitutional' and biased towards women. They also demanded that the government allow shared parenting for divorced couples.
'We have passed a resolution and declared Section 498 (A) of the IPC as unconstitutional as it favours married women,' Virag Dhulia, a senior member of the Bangalore-based NGO SIFF, told IANS.
The Save Indian Family Foundation (SIFF), an NGO fighting for men's rights and family harmony, organised the meet in which around 100 'harassed' men from at least 25 NGOs representing 40,000 members participated and debated various gender 'inequalities' in the Indian law.

Shimla, While the entire country celebrated Independence Day, for these harassed men, most of them in the prime of their bright careers, the day holds no significance when those very laws meant for protecting women are being misused to hit back at their innocent mothers and sisters who too happen to be women.
Demanding the setting up of a separate ministry for Men’s Welfare and a National Commission for Men, over 100 members from the Save Indian Family Foundation (SIFF) from all over the country held their second national meet here today. They chose August 15 specifically to highlight the fact there were no provisions to address the blatant misuse of dowry harassment and domestic violence act by a fairly sizeable section of women.

Rage. That’s what one gets to see in the eyes of harassed husbands and men’s rights activists in the city, who, outraged by laws, which they claim are unfair, are now getting ready to voice their protest on Independence Day this year.
“We are abstaining from Independence Day celebrations this year to protest the unfair laws that favour women,” says Suresh, the convenor of the Chennai Chapter of the Save Indian Family Foundation (SIFF), an organisation fighting for men’s rights and family harmony under the aegis of the Save Indian Family movement.
Men’s groups across the country have been protesting gender-biased laws in general and the Domestic Violence Act and the 498A, in particular.
